Shabab Radio: the project
Shabab Radio is an attempt to contribute to strengthen social cohesion in the Palestinian Territories, with a new tool: a community radio station, totally led by the civil society, in which the community has the responsibility to decide what and how to communicate. Starting from Birzeit area, this kind of approach can be an interesting instrument for democratic participation of people in all of the Palestinian Territories.
Giving voice to women and youth, Shabab Radio aims to contribute to their empowerment, in order to make women and youth two more powerful segments in the Palestinian society.
The radio is managed by 12 local independent organisations of the civil society, dealing with social issues, human rights, democracy, peace, and giving voice to those parts of Palestinian society that don’t have opportunities to express themselves, such as to European NGOs working in Plaestinian Territories in development and peace-building projects. Moreover, the radio will be in network with other international media and movements working in the same issues, in order to exchange programs, ideas and proposals.
